The short version: HanHan keeps your expenses on your iPhone. If you sign in, your trips sync to our server so the people you split with can see them. In Hybrid reading mode, a receipt photo, a short voice clip or the recognised text can be sent to Google Gemini to read it. In On-device mode nothing is sent for reading. We don’t sell your data or show ads.
Who we are
HanHan is an iPhone app for splitting expenses and tracking your own spending. It is run by Zero To One Co., Ltd. (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at support@hanhan.money.
What we collect
- Account: if you Sign in with Apple, your Apple user ID and the name and email Apple shares with us (you can hide your email). If you don’t sign in, the app uses an anonymous ID.
- Trips and expenses: group names, the names of people in them, items, amounts, currencies, who paid and how each bill was split, budgets, repeats and goals.
- Contacts: only the people you pick to add to a trip. We never read your whole address book.
- Notifications: a device token, so we can tell you when someone adds an expense to your trip.
- AI usage: how many AI reading requests you make each day, to keep usage fair.
How we use it
To run the app: show and sync your trips, share them with the people you invite, read receipts and voice, send notifications, enforce fair-use limits and answer your support requests. We don’t use your data for advertising and we don’t track you across other apps or websites.
How receipts and voice are read
Your iPhone reads the text on a receipt and turns speech into text first. In Hybrid mode (the default), the receipt photo, a short voice clip or the recognised text may then be sent through our server to Google’s Gemini API so it can pick out items, prices and who is splitting. Google processes it under its Gemini API terms. In On-device mode (Settings › AI), nothing is sent for reading and everything stays on your iPhone.
Permissions
HanHan asks for the camera (to scan receipts), photos (to pick a receipt picture), the microphone and speech recognition (to add expenses by voice) and contacts (to pick friends). Each is used only while you use that feature, and you can turn any of them off in iPhone Settings.
Where your data is stored
On your iPhone, and, if you sign in, with our database provider Supabase on servers in Tokyo, Japan. Data is sent over encrypted connections.
Who can see it
- People in a trip see that trip’s expenses and members.
- Service providers that run the app for us: Supabase (database and sign-in), Google (AI reading in Hybrid mode) and Apple (Sign in with Apple and notifications).
- Authorities, only if the law requires it.
We don’t sell or rent your personal data.
Keeping and deleting data
We keep your data while you use HanHan. Deleting a trip you created removes it for everyone; leaving a trip removes it from your list. To delete your account, open Settings (the slider icon) › Delete account. Your account, your own expenses, budgets, repeats, goals and folders are deleted straight away, HanHan’s Sign in with Apple access is revoked, and everything on your iPhone is erased. Trips you share stay for the other people in them: your name stays as a placeholder, and trips you created pass to another member. You can also email support@hanhan.money and we’ll do it for you within 30 days.
Children
HanHan isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.
Your choices and rights
You can see and change your data in the app, use On-device mode, or ask us for a copy, a correction or deletion at support@hanhan.money. Depending on where you live (for example under Thailand’s PDPA or Japan’s APPI) you may have further rights, and we’ll help you use them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
